Yucca Plant forms a sturdy, palm-like trunk topped by rosettes of stiff, sword-shaped leaves. Its upright structure brings height to a room without a wide, branching canopy. The sharp-looking foliage creates a strong architectural effect. This easy houseplant suits bright interiors and growers who prefer infrequent watering. It can become a large floor specimen, so allow enough vertical space and keep the pointed leaves away from busy walkways.

Light requirements
Yucca Plant prefers bright, indirect light measuring 150 to 250 μmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹. Reliable light keeps the trunk sturdy and the leaf rosettes compact.
Position it 5 ft / 1.5m from a south, west or east-facing window.
Select a spot without a direct view of the sky. Filter unavoidable sunlight with a sheer curtain.
Strong direct sun may scorch leaves. Too little light can produce weak, stretched growth and leaning stems.
A PAR meter or PAR meter app can measure photosynthetically active radiation as PPFD (μmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹).
Watering
Let the potting mix dry completely before watering Yucca Plant. Its drought tolerance makes excess water a greater risk than a brief dry period.
Check moisture at several depths with a knitting needle or chopstick. Deep soil may remain damp after the surface dries.
Use room temperature rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis water. Soak the mix until runoff comes through the drainage holes.
Allow the pot to drain fully before placing it on a saucer or in a decorative planter. Trapped water can cause root rot.
Water considerably less in winter when active growth slows. Extremely long droughts can still cause dry, crispy leaf tips or loss of lower foliage.
Soil
Yucca Plant grows well in a specialty organic palm potting mix because it provides the fast drainage this plant needs. The container must have open drainage holes.
For a DIY medium, mix 2 parts Coir, 2 parts Coarse Sand, and 1 part Pumice.
Keep the blend loose and avoid compressing it around the roots, which would slow drainage.
Feeding
Feed Yucca Plant with an organic all-purpose fertilizer every 2 to 4 weeks from March to October. Apply the recommended strength to moist soil. Do not use excess fertilizer to push faster growth, and stop routine feeding during winter.
Temperature & humidity
Yucca Plant prefers temperatures from 60 to 80 °F / 15 to 26 °C. Its ideal humidity is 40%. Normal indoor air is usually suitable. Protect the plant from cold drafts, sudden temperature shifts, and direct air from vents.
What to expect
Yucca Plant takes about 5 to 10 years to mature. Indoors, it can eventually stand 6 to 10 ft / 1.8 to 3 m tall. Mature rosettes may create a spread of 3 to 5 ft / 0.9 to 1.5 m.
