Polka Dot Begonia has large, angel-wing leaves covered with silvery-green spots. The upper surface contrasts sharply with a red underside. Under suitable indoor conditions, the plant may also produce delicate pink flowers. Its upright canes and patterned foliage make it a bold display plant. It suits growers who can balance bright filtered light with careful watering and moderate humidity.

Light requirements

Polka Dot Begonia prefers bright, indirect light at 150 to 250 μmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹.

Watering

Water Polka Dot Begonia when the topsoil feels dry. Check before each watering because its roots need moisture but cannot tolerate constant saturation.

Soil

Grow Polka Dot Begonia in an organic all-purpose potting mix with dependable drainage. The mix should retain moderate moisture without becoming dense or airless.

Feeding

Use an organic all-purpose fertiliser every 2 to 4 weeks from March to October. Apply the product at its directed strength to moist soil. Avoid overfeeding, which can damage roots and leaf margins. Stop routine feeding during the slower season.

Temperature & humidity

Polka Dot Begonia grows best at 65 to 77 °F / 18 to 25 °C. Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes. Humidity near 50% suits the foliage, though air should still move around the leaves.

What to expect

Polka Dot Begonia can mature in 1 to 2 years. It eventually reaches 2 to 3 ft / 60 to 90 cm tall, with a spread of 1 to 2 ft / 30 to 60 cm. It develops an upright, cane-like form.
