Confederate Jasmine is an evergreen climber with glossy dark green leaves and twining stems. Its foliage often turns deep bronze-red during winter. Clusters of strongly fragrant white flowers appear from mid to late summer. Indoors, it needs support and room to climb, but rewards steady care with a leafy screen and seasonal scent.

Light requirements
Confederate Jasmine grows best in bright indirect light of 150 to 250 μmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹. Strong filtered light supports dense vines and flowering.
Place it around 5 ft / 1.5 m from a south, west, or east-facing window.
Avoid an open view of the sky. Filter direct rays with a sheer curtain when needed.
Too much light: intense sun can bleach or scorch exposed leaves.
Too little light: stems stretch, foliage thins, and flowering declines. A PAR meter or PAR meter app can check PPFD in μmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹.
Watering
Water Confederate Jasmine when the topsoil feels dry. Check the soil before each watering rather than following a fixed weekly plan. The root zone should retain some moisture without remaining saturated.
Use room temperature rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis water.
Water thoroughly until liquid flows from the drainage holes. Let all excess drain before returning the pot to a saucer or decorative planter.
A pot with drainage holes is essential. Constantly wet soil can cause root rot and yellowing leaves.
Water considerably less in winter, when active growth slows. If the root ball stays dry too long, leaves may wilt or develop crispy edges.
Soil
Use an organic all-purpose potting mix for Confederate Jasmine. It should hold enough moisture for its active vines while allowing extra water to escape quickly. A pot with drainage holes is essential.
DIY recipe: combine 3 parts coir and 1 part pumice.
Apply worm castings as a top dressing.
Feeding
Apply an organic all-purpose fertilizer every 2 to 4 weeks from March to October. Feed moist soil at the product's stated strength. Do not add extra fertilizer to force flowers, and reduce or stop applications during winter when Confederate Jasmine grows more slowly.
Temperature & humidity
Confederate Jasmine tolerates a broad indoor range of 50 to 80 °F / 10 to 27 °C. Keep it away from sudden drafts and intense vent airflow. Humidity between 40 and 60% is suitable, supporting healthy leaves without requiring extremely humid conditions.
What to expect
Confederate Jasmine takes about 3 to 5 years to mature. With proper support, its climbing stems can reach 8 ft / 2.4 m. The plant may spread 3 to 4 ft / 0.9 to 1.2 m. Growth is moderate to vigorous in strong filtered light.
