White Bird of Paradise is a large architectural houseplant with broad, glossy leaves shaped like paddles. Upright stems create a bold, tropical screen as the plant matures. Older specimens can produce white and blue flowers, though indoor blooming is rare. This easy to intermediate plant needs generous floor space, height, and bright filtered light. It suits a roomy home better than a crowded shelf or narrow windowsill.

Light requirements

White Bird of Paradise prefers bright, indirect light at 150 to 250 μmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹. It can handle some direct morning sun when introduced gradually.

Watering

Allow the soil to become almost dry before watering White Bird of Paradise. Check more than the surface because moisture can remain deep inside a large pot.

Soil

White Bird of Paradise needs an organic all-purpose potting mix with reliable drainage and enough structure to support its roots. Select a stable container with drainage holes.

Feeding

Apply an organic all-purpose fertilizer every 2 to 4 weeks from March to October. Use the recommended strength and apply it to damp soil. Do not overfeed to force flowers, which rarely appear indoors, and pause routine feeding during winter.

Temperature & humidity

White Bird of Paradise prefers temperatures from 60 to 80 °F / 15 to 26 °C. Maintain humidity between 50 and 70%. Keep the large leaves away from cold drafts and direct vent air, which may dry their edges.
